Again?

Cool TV shows, School, IBEW test, and ibook ownership.

It feels like I just did this yesterday, oh yeah, I did.

Cool TV show: the Joe Schmo Show. They found some guy and put him on a reality TV show, but its all fake. The other 8 contestants are actors, and nearly all of it is pre-scripted. I don’t watch reality TV, but this is good.

Objective C++ today. Feels like I missed a class between 181 and this. Technically I did, Data Structures should be between, but isn’t required to be. Should come back soon.

IBEW test yesterday was a joke. Gave up to 45 minutes for reading portion, took me about 15 or 20. Math section was equally laughable. I expect an interview in 30 – 60 days.

Re-calculated time I’ve owned ibook last night. 278 days; 39.7143 weeks; 9.26666 months; 0.76164 years. Way too many significant digits, especially considering I didn’t figure in hours and minutes. Oh well.

I keep hitting command – , (comma). Opens the preferences for the open application. Is rather annoying, and it happens almost every time I do a lot of typing.

I think thats it. I’ve been writing every day for, well, this would be the 4th day, so lack of thoughts is kinda understandable.

Ok, night ya’all.

Number 38

SC4, the Rabbit, B-Day, Broken Blog, More B-Day, EBay, More SC4, IBEW Test, New Apple Hardware, Poor Rabbit, School, and Fixed Blog (Thats three days of posts, all in one!)

Well, I spent the majority of last night downloading all 650 MB of S*m C*ty 4, which means I get to spend the majority of tonight finding a ser*al number, which is proving to be much harder. The things I do to save $49.99 plus shipping.

Rabbit seams to have grown in 3 days, weird. Its annoying, mom always wants me to feed it and whatever. IT’S NOT MINE! Gah, not like I know what a rabbit wants. I owned a snapping turtle, my view of baby rabbits is about 2 weeks of food I don’t need to buy.

Only 2 days till my birthday. It was suggested to me that I go sit in a bar at 11 tomorrow night, wait for 12, and order something right away. What bar is open and serving at midnight on a Sunday? I’m sure there out there, but why go there? I have the rest of my life to drink whatever I want, the fact that you can’t doesn’t mean I have to. Seriously though, only a bit over 24 hours, how cool. So I know your all thinking “Man, 24 hours, what will I get?” Well, A good starter is the Sunday papers. Anything from OfficeMax, Staples, Best Buy, or Circuit City thats at least $25 will probably be good. If nothing else, its worth $25 when I return it. Seriously though, there isn’t much I ask for:

Apple Airport Card $79 ($71 for students)
512Mb PC133 1.25″ SO-DIMM $95 (depends where you go)
Coke, or Pepsi (I actually want it now though, not Monday)
A ser*al number for S*m C*ty 4 for mac
Any of the books on my Amazon.com WishList, if you go there there’s some way for you to look at my list, pick something, and have it shipped to me, look around.

Thats about it. Of course, I always accept cash.

And, funny of the week, from Apple’s Mac OS X Panther site:

Unix-lover Heaven
Panther will include a final X11 window server for Unix-based apps, improved NFS/UFS, FreeBSD 5 innovations as well as support for popular Linux APIs, IPv6 and other important acronyms.

Other important acronyms? Is that a technical term? The heck?

Anyway, moving on…

Still no ser*al number. Keep finding them for Windows version too, which seems to have different ser*als. I also learned tonight that I need a ser*al for iblog, as my 30 days seem to be up. For all I know, this wont even post.

Ok, enough for now, I got stuff to do. Need to get back on a normal sleep schedule for school. All 2 days of it.

Night ya’all
nick

…Nope, wont post. Hmm, how to get $19.95 to an Indian bank account at 11:33 on Saturday night, when you ain’t got the money on your credit card. Hmm. Guess I go watch SNL and figure it out at 1.

…Well, its about 8:27:53 right now (well, I guess not “about”) and still no iblog. Tomorrow though the money will be on my credit card. I want to blame it on Lifli for making me pay, but I knew it was $20 and didn’t pay when I could have. Crazy part: Says the program costs $19.95, WRONG! Actually, since developer is in India, it costs 950 Rupees. So with exchange rates as of last night, it really costs $20.79. Now $0.84 isn’t a big deal, but I would like to know about it. Rupees, hah!

My birthday is closer, just two and a half hours. Mom is at casino, the Sunday nearest my birthday seems to be lucky.

Jason was looking at a CD-ROM for his PowerBook 1400, and we found one that’s “Certified Pre-Owned.” The seller guarantees that if you ever find that the CD-ROM was not owned by someone before you, he will give you double your money back. I laughed like hell seeing it, it’s a funny gimmick, I give it that.

I downloaded S*mC*ty 4, which I’ve been searching for for weeks (weird to say “for for”). So I get it downloaded, go to install, and “Please enter your password.” Crap, ok, online for a password. Find one on a website finally, has been about 24 hours since I started download at this point. So enter password, instal commences, and half way through “Please enter disk 2.” Crap crap crap crap crap. Still haven’t found a S*m C*ty 4 disk 2 for Mac. Bastards. I was googling for some info on it, and found a forum where the reviews are “mixed.” Every thing from “My G4 400MHz with 256MB of RAM runs SC4 fine” to “My G4 dual 1.42GHz with 1.5GB RAM chokes on the piece.” Don’t recall anyone with specifics on trying it on a G3, so who knows what my results will be. Definitely not shelling out $50 with results like that though.

Well, school tomorrow, and IBEW test, and birthday, so need sleep. That wont be for probably 2 hours, at least. Oh well.

I do plan to post as normal on Tuesday, and will add to this before I post it. You should be able to read this on Monday though. Weird to write stuff knowing nobody will see it for another day, screws with the “relative dates.” By the time you read this “tomorrow” will be Wednesday and “Today” will be gone. Time is a funny thing.

Ok, adios,
nick

…Ok, 9:44 Monday night. Apple released new imacs and ipods today, but wont bore you with specs, just check apples webpage.

Most un-eventful birthday in history, especially for a 21st. I’m not complaining though, not one for a big party anyway. Woke up this morning to “Good morning, happy birthday, I think rabbit is dead.” It was. Was too young, needed mom’s milk and we couldn’t give it. Wild animal’s should be left in the wild.

Started Unix today, bit disappointed. Working on Windows machines, just logging into a unix server. Oh well. Will see how Obj. Oriented C++ goes tomorrow.

And most important, I PAID FOR IBLOG!!! Which is why you can see this.

Update tomorrow, like it should be.

Bye for the third time,
nick

It begins again

Re-Beginnings, New Rabbit, School Begins, B-Day, Trogdor, and Silly-Putty.

Here we are, the first real post at a new blog. This is number 37, 34 on old plus 2 trials here plus this.

I have a new pet. Scott from where I work was out mowing, and found some bunnies. He was mowing along and found one running in the yard, and was afraid he might hit it, so picked it up and put it in his truck. He came over here, before taking it back, and we had to break it to him that because he touched it, the mom would smell the new scent and shun the bunny. So, being the animal person, I got stuck with it. I really don’t need a 6 week old bunny to take care of, but what can I do? Pretty sure its a boy, no name yet.

I was bored late monday night/Tuesday morning so went online and found my Java homework. I managed to turn in my first assignment before 4 am. Of course, the semester didn’t start for another 43 hours. No f2f class till Monday.

My birthday is just 5 days away. Starting to get excited. Probably get crap for gifts. Notice the gifts just go downhill from about 17 on?

What else… I can never think of stuff to talk about when I’m writing, but say “I should say that” for the three days leading up to the blog. It sucks.

I found the joys of Strong Bad a few days ago. Cool website, especially Trogdor.

Ever make that silly putty type stuff? You mix glue with water, and dissolve some borax it water, then mix the two, and kneed out the excess water. Its kinda cool at first, but I played with it too much and it’s getting kinda tough. Oh well, it was fun.

I’m now taking donations for registering iblog (the program I use to make the blog) and renewing .mac. You can call it a birthday present if you want. And jason, your donation is mandatory.

I have put the Gollum acceptance speech from the 2003 MTV movie awards on my website. Check it out.

Ok, I think thats it. No idea what I will talk about Saturday, but I will be back then. Tuesday though, you can expect news about my classes, birthday, and the IBEW test.

I'm Sick

Sick, So is family, Last one is next, Mars, and School.
Blogger Post #33

Number, uhm, 33.

Short one this time, because I am miserable. Either allergies, or a flu-ish thing. I’m not running a temp, but I seldom do. My normal body temperature is in the high 96s to mid 97s, and I am at 97.8. My brother had a flu, was running 99.9 temp, mom seems to have the same thing, so probably is a flu.

The next post on Sunday will be the last one here on blogger, then switch to my .mac page on Wednesday, though I will probably post there on Sunday or Monday. Haven’t transfered these blogs to new blog yet, will work on it when I feel better.

Went to Delta last night about 10:30 to look at Mars thru the college’s 13″ Newtonian telescope. Looked amazing, if you can get out anytime this week to check mars out with even a decent pair of binoculars, do it. My 4.5″ Newtonian showed more than I’ve ever seen, but the 13 is amazing. I could see a few mountain ranges, and clearly see the polar ice cap (it’s dry ice, carbon dioxide, not water).

Less than a week until school starts, actually my first class is next Thursday. I finally realized that Delta is starting late because of all the construction on campus. Can’t believe is took me that long.

Uhm, ok, thats it I guess. I am probably going to sleep soon, really not feeling good.

nick

If at first you don’t succeed, deny trying at all.

School, Cable Modem, Charter hires idiots, and Move.
Blogger Post #32

Number 32, wow. First post was May 27th, so almost 3 months. Only 2 more posts here though, then the move.

I realized today that I only have about a week left before school starts. Granted, most of you are already back in school, but hey. This year shouldn’t be too bad, only taking 8 credit hours, and there not that hard of classes.

Cable modem is still hovering in the 1.8 MBit/s range, although it was outright down most of today, last night, and a while saturday too. Stupid asses at Charter couldn’t fix your connection if it were just an unplugged ethernet cable. They say “It’s probably the router, try connecting a computer directly to the modem.” Well, if you shitheads ever get around to erasing my MAC addresses off your server so it doesn’t think were supposed to be in Essexville, then that would work, but for now I can’t. FOUR MONTHS, AND THEY STILL HAVEN’T ERASED OUR MAC ADDRESSES, FOUR MONTHS! And it cant be the router, because its been hooked up and working fine for over a month now. If Charter would hire people who have an IQ higher than their age, we wouldn’t have this problem. Tech support shouldn’t consist of a bunch of no-brains reading the troubleshooting manual from the computer in front of them, a 5 year old can do that. And when I told them I didn’t have a Charter modem, that I bought my own, he claimed that other modems don’t work with the system, and that was my problem, HAH! Idiots. He also said that my speed tests were in-acurate and there is no way I’m running at 1.8MB s, and the modem was only configured at 768k. Well, 5 different test, including 2 of Charters, all say I’m between 1.68 and 1.85 MB/s. And, the cable modems status page says I’m configured for 2,000,000 bps, so nearly 2.0MB/s. Idiots, freaking idiots.

Anyway, I think thats it. Good luck in school this year! See you thursday for 33rd post, then Sunday for 34th and final on this blog. I will put a link to new site on the last entry for all you who don’t know where its moving. Or you can just click the link to my homepage at the right.

90 Days?, G5s shipping, School, Unix book is cool, Uptime, More Unix, and More, and More.
Blogger Post #30

Wow, that means like 90ish days on the blog. I think this is day 88, and it will be 90 days the day before the 31st post. Oh, well, anyway.

THE G5s SHIPPED!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday, the single processor G5s were shipped in limited quantity to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Resellers across the nation. Yeay!!!

I paid for my classes and got 3 of my 4 books today. On chapter 4 of the Unix book. It says “Do not choose a password that is even remotely related to Star Trek or Monty Python.” Guess thats just more proof of how many geeks use Unix. Also “Unix is a set of tools for smart people.” Yes, yes it is. So Java, HTML, C++, and Unix/Linux OpSys. The nice part is they are all in C wing of delta, except Java which is an internet class.

I re-calculated my uptime, and that record was 12d 11h 59m. The uptime monitor has a habit of crashing, but now I know the unix command to figure it out myself, Bwah-hahaha!

“If you ever get a message from userid root, be very polite. You are talking to someone who can wipe you out of the system with a single command.” See how Unix mimics life? Isn’t it cool?

Ok, its taken me 15 minutes to write this much because I keep reading the unix book, so I am going to give in. At this rate I will be done with the book before school starts on the 4th. Anyway, you all take care, and have fun away at college. Most of you are starting Monday I believe, CMU and NMU are, right? Anyway, bye!

nick

I have enough quotes up there ^

Cable modem, Uptime, RIP Jason, School, New blog, Genji, Black-outs, and Other uncle.
Blogger Post #29

Well, still running at 1.8MBit, downloading 5MB mp3s in a mere 20 seconds is awesome, when I can find hosts that are running that fast too.

I downloaded the security update for OS X yesterday, not realizing it was going to make me restart afterward. So I just minimized the installer into the dock and ignored it for a few hours. Then the computer started acting screwy and I decided that I mind as well just do the restart, though I probably could have fixed it. So the record is at 10 days, 12 hours, and 8 minutes. I had hoped to make 14 days, but the ibook gets too unstable, dirty memory problems. Maybe after I upgrade the memory it will be better.

Jason is dead, has been at least a week since I saw him online or anything. Heck, I’ve seen troy since I saw jason, and Troy is only on like every 3 months. Well, maybe more, but only like 2 or 3 times since school let out at end of april. Anyway, RIP Jason!

Everyone is leaving for school. CMU, MTU, and , uhm, pretty much everyone I know goes to those two actually. Poor saps, delta doesn’t start until Sept. 4th, HA HA! (Nelson style) Maybe they will read blog more this way, being so far from me and all.

My financial problems are fixed, so I will be going to school this semester. I’m glad, I wouldn’t accomplish anything otherwise.

I have posted 2 entries to new blog, to see how it works, and done some updates on the website. I will post a list of all 14 people who viewed this blog on the final post on Sunday, August 31st, 2003. Funny how it worked out that way. Anyway, I am looking forward to it. I can play with the design more, since its just an HTML template, and can put pictures and stuff right in the blog. Will be cool.

An update from a while back, when we went to Mt. Pleasant to get mom’s car, we ate at Genji Steakhouse and Sushi Bar in Midland. Very Benihana like. Sushi was small and expensive compared to Hello Sushi, though a greater selection. And price was high, considering that they really just stuff you with sticky rice. I suggest if you want to try it, go for lunch, it’s cheaper.

How about that black-out. We lucked out, lost power for about 3 seconds because 2 of Consumer’s generators got knocked off from the surge. Really makes you realize how dependent we are on electricity though. Gas pumps, card swipe door locks, elevators, traffic lights, cell phone towers, so much that we take for granted and don’t even think about needing electricity.

My Uncle John is in town, the rich one. Came in this morning, leave tomorrow night. Staying at a friends house though, so makes it easier on us. He was here this morning, but I was still sleeping so missed him. Sure he will be back though. I haven’t seen him in 7 years, wow.

Ok, I think thats about it. I will be back on Tuesday for number 30. See you all then.

On time? Me?, Faster modem, Brother is back, Moving blog, I need cash, Cousin’s blog, Projects, Uptime, and I need RAM.
Blogger Post #28

Look, I’m on time!

That fluke with my connection running over-speed is back. It was at 1.8Mbit on friday, then slowed to sub-normal for a while, but returned on sunday to the 1.8Mbit level, and has hovered there since. I love this, I can download at around 230 kbytes/second, which is SOOOO fast its scary. I just hope Charter isn’t charging us for this.

My brother has moved back in, long story. He found that living with friends can turn out to be not as great as you expected, and that life is harder than you think. The problem is, he wants his half of the bedroom back, bastard.

I have began moving the blog. I will wait until at least the end of this month to move, and will move all the archived posts from here on blogger to the new page. We’ll see how it works out.

I might not be going to school this fall. I am having some problems with financial aid, and need to be paid by tuesday. I’m not sure how to get $1000 in a week, probably will need to get a loan and pay back whenever fin-aid comes in.

My cousin Danielle saw my blog while she was in town, and thought it was really awesome. Before she left home to PA, we set her up her own blog (which is no longer available). She’s doing better at posting than me, but then again she doesn’t have a life (as if I do).

Well, I guess thats it. I will try getting website and new blog running soon, but no promises. This fin-aid stuff is really bugging me, and will definitely be my priority project.

Oh, and uptime is at 9 days, 7 hours, 25 minutes. Have had 1,134,799 pageouts during that time. Actually, if I start VirtualPC, I can hit 15 or more pageouts at a time. By the way, a pageout is what happens when you run out of RAM, and your computer needs to access Virtual Memory on the Hard Disk instead. Right now, I have 11MB of RAM free, but has been less than that generally. I need to put some real thought in weather I should get AirPort card or RAM first. We will see.

Ok, hasta lasagna

Remember, warning labels are there because somebody else already tried it.
If somebody thinks that blow drying your hair while your still in the shower will save some time, I say let them try.

The "Salesman" Trance

My degree, Brother’s birthday, Stuff for sale, Website work, Panther, and Want to come?.
Blogger Post #16

Another day, another blog.

I got the letter from Delta a few days ago saying that I was approved for my degree, so just a week or two and I should have it.

My brothers birthday was “uneventful”. He has apparently learned that at a point they don’t really matter anymore. Oh well, it happens to us all.

Ok, now that thats over…

It’s the weekend and that means I need to get more work on the webpage done. Probably go for more pictures or something, maybe PDFs of old school reports I liked. Who knows, we’ll see.

When Panther comes out, I am going to the Apple Store in Troy. If you would like to come, let me know. If nothing else, maybe we can run out on the highway and take pictures in front of the exit sign (Exit 69, Big Beaver Rd.). If anyone would prefer to go to the Novi store, I don’t mind as I haven’t been there yet, so up for something new, but I don’t know how to get there so you would need to drive. The Troy store is a no-brainer to get to, part of why I like it. And in case you don’t know, Panther is Mac OS X 10.3, which should be out in late 2003.

Ok, enough for now. I will see you on, uhm, Tuesday, yeah, yeah Tuesday.

Is it that time again?

“The Recruit”, Seventh grade memories, SMUG, ichat is screwy, and Cancelled class.
Blogger Post #8

I was sitting here and I thought “I think it’s blog night.” Actually, I didn’t think it, I IM’d it to Jason. And I didn’t have the ‘ in it’s, since I don’t use much punctuation in IMs, but you get the point.

I just got done watching “the Recruit” and it was pretty good. My cousin fell asleep when he watched it, and so did my mom, but I thought it was good. Al Pacino was perfect for the roll. Colin Farrell, well, he’s a great actor and all, but he just seems so much like a Brad Pitt clone, or at least a fraternal twin.

Going back to that opening, I am reminded of seventh grade. Mrs. Coates class, and those free writes. Suchyta is the only person that will really remember them, since he’s the only person who reads this thing that was in the class, but they were great. He even helped me in writing a few of them. I wish I knew where they are. “The Sock” and “Untitled tale of the Porta-Potty guys” (yes, I know thats a title, just shut-up), I dedicate this post to you, wherever you are.

I missed the SMUG meeting this past Thursday. I normally go every other month, but decided they suck too much to go again. Ohh well, maybe they will improve sometime.

I would like now to express my newest bitch (I know, its like a regular column in my rant). ichat, Apple’s AIM client, seems to have a major flaw (other than not sending links right). When I put up an away message, nobody gets it! If you click my name in AIM, and then do the info thing, it will display the message. And if you look next to my name in ichat it will display. But, if you message me, it doesn’t send the message. Instead, it just sits there as if I am too rude to answer, and I feel kinda bad, but am trying to re-focus that as rage at Apple. Maybe in the new version it will be fixed.

Delta canceled one of my classes. CST-126, Network Cabling and Media, doesn’t it just sound easy? A class about running network cable? Ohh well, maybe in the winter semester. For now, I need to find a 4 credit course for fall.

Ok, later…
