So, whats been happening…

Last Wednesday I worked at the new Library, very cool. Set up 24 new computers there, and left many more still to be hooked up. Will be back there this Wednesday as well. Wednesday night Molly attacked a skunk and got sprayed. Having watched that episode of MythBusters, I knew baking soda, peroxide, and dish soap works better than tomato juice, so thats what I used.

Friday I worked, as did I Saturday, though Saturday I opened because Dan and I switched. Yesterday Jenn and I watched the SuperBowl, and made buffalo shrimp, buffalo chicken strips, chili cheese nachos, and pepperjack sticks (like mozzerella sticks, but different).

Today, I am working, then go to Delta for interview with Ferris admissions advisor, then CAD, then home. Tomorrow, of course, will be electronics, then speech, then home. Wednesday will be, as I said, work at Wirt. And Thursday will be lunch at OGW with Scott, then electronics, then machine tools, then sleep. Friday, I start at Wirt during my regular work hours.

I had hoped today would be slow, since we have been telling people for 2 weeks we closed on Saturday, but due to school being canceled everyone sent their kids here for me to babysit. Oh well, I still managed time to blog, so thats something.

So, since I have the Ferris appointment today, I was going through all me requirements and transcript, and found a goof in my planning. I am 1 credit short in one of the Gen Ed requirements for Ferris that I wanted to get done at Delta. Whether I should sneak in next year, or take a cooler class at Ferris (like Japanese or Russian), and some housing qustions are on my list so far, but I need to think up more later.

I have more pages on Google now, seems to go up every few days. Is exciting.

I got my state and federal tax refunds in on the 1st and 3rd respectively, and financial aid rebates are awarded tomorrow. Plus, I get paid on Friday. Woohoo, goodby credit card (sadly, not all of it though).

Stuff

I really have nothing to write about, but its been a week so I figured I should post. The problem though, as I just stated, is I have nothing to write about.

Have you ever wondered if maybe the world spins, cause there is always someone jumping somewhere? And what if, for one instant, nobody jumped? Would we begin careening out of control and smash into something? And what would we hit? The sun? Jupiter? The Moon? Some invisible wall we don’t even know is there yet?

Ever wonder if your life is really just someone else’s dream? And if so, are they enjoying it? (Ok, thats not mine, it’s from HHG2G).

Yeah, like I said, nothing.

Delta released fall schedules, so I can start looking at them now.

All Gone

Google, Wendy’s, Speech, Cars, and Pixar.

So, I was finally on google, I was listed, and then… I ruined it. I updated my sitemap, which is where google gets the listing of where my pages are, and google de-listed me till it reindexes. Few days I should be back up though.

I just saw the Wendy’s commercial again for their dollar menu, and part of it really bugs me. At the end, a man tells his wife “you look like a million crispy chicken nuggets.” Wait, the proper expression is a million bucks, and throughout the commercial they replace dollar menu items for dollars, so it seems right. When you think though (I know, you should never think, it takes away the funny, I’m probably the person who told yo that in the first place so you can’t quote it to me) there are 5 nuggets in a $1 box. That means he implied $200,000, not $1,000,000. If I was his wife, he wouldn’t be getting any for a while.

My speech for Oral Communications went OK I think. She said that since we barely covered anything yet, grades would be fairly lenient.

If any of you don’t know, and honestly 2 out of my 3 readers don’t, I am car shopping. I have been mostly looking at Volkswagens, and noticed something, power windows are actually rare. Believe it or not, the majority of the cars I have found have keyless entry and no power windows. Why would you get not just power locks, but keyless, and not get power windows? It just seems really odd to me.

Disney, yesterday, announced that they are buying Pixar for $7,400,000,000. I could have said $7.4 billion, but the zeros add drama. Steve Jobs, also CEO of Apple, owned 51% of Pixar, and thus gets 51% of the stock in the deal. He will now be, with a 7% share, the largest stockholder of Disney/Pixar/ABC (though just called Disney). We will see if that is a good, or bad, position to be in.

Yay, Google

Post Number, VP Award, Google, and Moving.

First, in case you didn’t know, this is #345, so 350 isn’t far off.

Second, on Saturday I received my Vice President’s List award letter. No fancy certificate, but it’s something. At least I was full time, part time only gets a post card.

Third, I am, as of 1/20/2005, FINALLY on Google. I submitted a sitemap and it seems to have worked. Only seems to be the main page of my site right now, but at least that’s something. Maybe all the blogs will make it up over the next month or so. Then again, maybe I will need to finagle more. On a side note, holy shit, finagle is a properly spelled word.

Notes

PowerBook, School, and Comments.

A few of notes for you.

First, I did some looking, and the PowerBook has been named so since October 21, 1991 when the PowerBook 100 replaced the Macintosh Portable. It did not have a PowerPC until August 28, 1995. it is, therefore, Apple’s oldest brand name, as the Power Macintosh name didn’t debut until March 14, 1994, the iMac on May 6, 1998, and the iBook on July 21, 1999. It is one of their most recognizable brand names as well. So, with all this, I think we have a reason to be pissed if the name disappears, and I know I am not the only one who will always think of Apple’s high-end laptop as a PowerBook, no matter what name they put on it.

Second, after fretting and writing for a few hours this morning about my Oral Comm. class speech, I accepted my fate and went to leave for school. On the way outside I realized just how slippery it was, and decided that since I have gone to Delta before only to find the campus closed on my way in, I should check one more time. Sure enough, Delta had moved from a delay until 2:00 to all day closure. So, I get to go through all the worry again next Tuesday.

Third, to the person who commented at 7:17 AM EST on 1/16/06 (you know who you are), I consider that post to be spam, and if you do anything similar again, you will be banned form the site. I know you are a frequent visitor by your IP address, and am sure you don’t want it to come to that. Keep comments on topic, please. I like comments, I enjoy receiving and reading them, especially since none of you have blogs for me to read.

Tired

School, Work, and MTP.

I guess after nearly a week, I should update. I have been rather busy though. Between school, and work, and homework, and trying to get signed up for my last class, it’s been a week.

Yeah, by Statistical Process Control class was canceled, so got set up as independent study. Problem is me and prof have opposite schedules, so despite trying since before school started, I didn’t meet up with him till today. And, after all that, he has me sign one paper and hands me the syllabus, says “OK, see you whenever”. That’s it, figure it out on my own. Honestly, it might be better.

One of the people in my machining class is an MTP alumni like Scott and I and others. Also, I talked to Jim online a few nights ago. He’s in Washington state right now.

So, that’s about it. School is OK, electronics boring and public speaking scary. Work is OK too, though a little boring at times.

MacWorld Expo 2006

MacWorld, School, and Work.

So, the biggest day of the year for the Mac community, with the possible exception of the WorldWide Developers Conference, was today: the keynote address of the MacWorld Expo San Francisco. There was good, and there was bad. Here’s a summary:

    the Good

  • iWeb WebPage Editor/Blogger
  • Garageband Podcast studio
  • New Laptop includes iSight and FrontRow/Remote
  • Massive sales of iPods and itunes songs

    the Bad

  • New Laptop not named PowerBook, name going dead
  • still no spreadsheet in iWork
  • Updated systems were iMac and PowerBook, that were just updated, not mini and iBook that need updates

I can live with it all, mostly cause I have no choice. I am still peeved about the intel switch, because IBM does have a lower power G5, and no matter how much Apple screws with the numbers to make it seem better, the Intel platform can’t touch the G5. I can nearly guarantee that the PowerMac will go much longer unupdated than normal before going over to intel, so Intel has a chance to catch up with an 8 month old G5. Also, it seems it will likely get a name change as well, to something along the lines of Mac Tower Pro or something equally goofy.

Anyway, enough of that.

School is kinda blah so far. CAD seems OK, Electronics is going to bore me to death because it’s all intro stuff compared to Skill Center, and oral Communications is public speaking, which I don’t much like. Oh well.

Work is going OK so far. Will work again Friday noon to 5.

Sorry, Christmas, Suchyta, Uptime, Work, Grades, and WP.

Sorry, I have been neglecting my blogging duties.

Christmas went by without too much issue. Jenn and I went to her parents on Friday, her grandmas Saturday, then back here to my grandparents Sunday. Lots of cool gifts from all around, including a lantern, clothes, and cash.

Suchyta is in town for christmas, so I saw him Monday. He burned me a Tiger DVD so I upgraded to 10.4 yesterday. Having fun with that. It’s faster because it’s all newer, better formed code, and I erased HD so bitrot is fixed, but is also slower sometimes due to higher memory use.

So, since I had to reboot to install (actually, like 5 times, as I install, upgrade, install, upgrade, etc…), I lost my uptime. I did manage to wait for a bit of a milestone though: 45 days, 3 minutes. That comes out to November 12th at 10:07 PM as my last restart. In that time, I downloaded 1.8GB of data, uploaded 425MB, read 42.5GB from the HD and wrote 48.5GB. Now, I guess I need to shoot for 60 days.

I am waiting to hear on new job as a tech page at Bay County Library. YMCA just isn’t for me, and the 2 I applied for at Delta’s library didn’t sound promising, most were taken already. Beth Rye at BCLS sounded like I have a good shot though. Should know tomorrow.

My final grades came out as A, A, A, A-. Not sure if I mentioned that. I am needless to say a little proud.

WordPress has a WP 2.0 Release Candidate out. That means sometime soon I will be upgrading from WP 1.5 to 2.0. Not sure if I will mess with the RC beta or not though.

There is probably more, as I haven’t blogged in a while, but can’t think of anything now. I will post again if I think of anything though.

Very Merry Happy Christmahanukwanzakuh!

Lunch, Grades, Work, and Holiday.

So, lets recap what you all missed.

Saturday Scott, Chris, Shelby, some guy, and I went to Genji in Midland. I had the Chicken and Shrimp, and Scott and I split a sushi appetizer, and I had some of his sake too. We shall return for lunch next week we think, when prices are lower.

Though still unofficial, I know a bit more about my grades. I managed well enough on my math test to get a 93.2%, for my 3rd A this semester. I also got a 100 on my manufacturing project, for a 93.8 in there. However, even though being over 93% should give me an A, I reviewed the syllabus for the class and the professor apparently has a non-standard grading scale, and requires a 95% for an A. So, I end up with A, A, A, A-, and a 3.93 overall. That means I get Vice Presidents list. I should have 4 As though, and have complained to her and the college for a standardized grade scale.

I worked today, and it was not good. Boring, and repetitive. Sweep around the machine, wipe down the machine, go to next one. Then, when you get all the empty machines done, pretend your doing something so the members who pay your salary don’t get upset, and wait for them to get off the machines you haven’t cleaned yet. After that, mop the floor, and go on to the next room and do the same thing. Repeat that every day. Yeah, fun. I am looking into other options. Good news is they are all scheduled through the end of the year, so don’t need me to come be insanely bored there this month, just come be trained today.

And Christmas. There was word my Uncle Steve might come in, but apparently not. Jenn wants me to go home with her, but I need to be at Grandparents around 3 on Christmas Day, so trying to schedule both in. We think it’s doable though.

BTW, Old Great Wall is open Christmas Day. If anyone’s dinner turns out not-great.

Let it Snow

Work, Grades, Books, and Poll.

I got the job, start Monday. It was going to be Jan 2nd, but they moved it up. Is custodial/maintenance at YMCA from 7:30 to an hour before class, Monday through Wednesday. Comes out at 22 hours a week. Over Christmas though I don’t fully know when I will be working yet.

I had my final math test today, and feel pretty good about it. I know I have A’s in CAD and Drafting, and as long as I get an 87.4% on math test I have an A there too. Manufacturing is close to the edge too depending on the test we had Tuesday and the presentation later today. So, worst case scenario, I get A, A, A-, A-. Not bad for a worst case, huh? Will let you all know final grades when I get them (Monday or Tuesday I think).

I got my books this week too. I have all but a course packet for my machine tools class. Only cost me around $500.

I need to come up with a new poll, but every time I decided to try I can’t come up with one. Soon, I am trying.

I guess that’s it for now. Enjoy the snow, sounds like a lot is coming.
BTW, uptime at 32 days, 3 hrs, and still going.
