Sorry, Christmas, Suchyta, Uptime, Work, Grades, and WP.

Sorry, I have been neglecting my blogging duties.

Christmas went by without too much issue. Jenn and I went to her parents on Friday, her grandmas Saturday, then back here to my grandparents Sunday. Lots of cool gifts from all around, including a lantern, clothes, and cash.

Suchyta is in town for christmas, so I saw him Monday. He burned me a Tiger DVD so I upgraded to 10.4 yesterday. Having fun with that. It’s faster because it’s all newer, better formed code, and I erased HD so bitrot is fixed, but is also slower sometimes due to higher memory use.

So, since I had to reboot to install (actually, like 5 times, as I install, upgrade, install, upgrade, etc…), I lost my uptime. I did manage to wait for a bit of a milestone though: 45 days, 3 minutes. That comes out to November 12th at 10:07 PM as my last restart. In that time, I downloaded 1.8GB of data, uploaded 425MB, read 42.5GB from the HD and wrote 48.5GB. Now, I guess I need to shoot for 60 days.

I am waiting to hear on new job as a tech page at Bay County Library. YMCA just isn’t for me, and the 2 I applied for at Delta’s library didn’t sound promising, most were taken already. Beth Rye at BCLS sounded like I have a good shot though. Should know tomorrow.

My final grades came out as A, A, A, A-. Not sure if I mentioned that. I am needless to say a little proud.

WordPress has a WP 2.0 Release Candidate out. That means sometime soon I will be upgrading from WP 1.5 to 2.0. Not sure if I will mess with the RC beta or not though.

There is probably more, as I haven’t blogged in a while, but can’t think of anything now. I will post again if I think of anything though.

In case I don’t blog again within the next 3 days, Happy New Year.

Very Merry Happy Christmahanukwanzakuh!

Lunch, Grades, Work, and Holiday.

So, lets recap what you all missed.

Saturday Scott, Chris, Shelby, some guy, and I went to Genji in Midland. I had the Chicken and Shrimp, and Scott and I split a sushi appetizer, and I had some of his sake too. We shall return for lunch next week we think, when prices are lower.

Though still unofficial, I know a bit more about my grades. I managed well enough on my math test to get a 93.2%, for my 3rd A this semester. I also got a 100 on my manufacturing project, for a 93.8 in there. However, even though being over 93% should give me an A, I reviewed the syllabus for the class and the professor apparently has a non-standard grading scale, and requires a 95% for an A. So, I end up with A, A, A, A-, and a 3.93 overall. That means I get Vice Presidents list. I should have 4 As though, and have complained to her and the college for a standardized grade scale.

I worked today, and it was not good. Boring, and repetitive. Sweep around the machine, wipe down the machine, go to next one. Then, when you get all the empty machines done, pretend your doing something so the members who pay your salary don’t get upset, and wait for them to get off the machines you haven’t cleaned yet. After that, mop the floor, and go on to the next room and do the same thing. Repeat that every day. Yeah, fun. I am looking into other options. Good news is they are all scheduled through the end of the year, so don’t need me to come be insanely bored there this month, just come be trained today.

And Christmas. There was word my Uncle Steve might come in, but apparently not. Jenn wants me to go home with her, but I need to be at Grandparents around 3 on Christmas Day, so trying to schedule both in. We think it’s doable though.

BTW, Old Great Wall is open Christmas Day. If anyone’s dinner turns out not-great.

Yeah, so have a very merry happy Christmahanukwanzakuh if I don’t see you before your respective holiday.

Let it Snow

Work, Grades, Books, and Poll.

I got the job, start Monday. It was going to be Jan 2nd, but they moved it up. Is custodial/maintenance at YMCA from 7:30 to an hour before class, Monday through Wednesday. Comes out at 22 hours a week. Over Christmas though I don’t fully know when I will be working yet.

I had my final math test today, and feel pretty good about it. I know I have A’s in CAD and Drafting, and as long as I get an 87.4% on math test I have an A there too. Manufacturing is close to the edge too depending on the test we had Tuesday and the presentation later today. So, worst case scenario, I get A, A, A-, A-. Not bad for a worst case, huh? Will let you all know final grades when I get them (Monday or Tuesday I think).

I got my books this week too. I have all but a course packet for my machine tools class. Only cost me around $500.

I need to come up with a new poll, but every time I decided to try I can’t come up with one. Soon, I am trying.

I guess that’s it for now. Enjoy the snow, sounds like a lot is coming.
BTW, uptime at 32 days, 3 hrs, and still going.

Uptime, and Job?

So, the great debate on my computer has returned. There is a security update out that I have been ignoring for a week now, but with a current uptime of 28 days 1 hour and 16 minutes, I am hesitant to install because I don’t want to restart. You may remember about a year ago I reached an uptime of 21 days 8 hours. I will let you know the final record when i decide to restart.

I was going to mention it last time, but didn’t, but decided I will now. I may have a job. I am at about 99% sure. I applied for work study at Delta and got a referral for a custodial/maintenance position at the YMCA. I went in to fill out the application and have an interview Thursday, and it seems all is set. They even went through my schedule to figure out when I can work. So, I am figuring I will find out Monday for sure, but like I said I am 99% on it right now. It is only $6.50 an hour, but no taxes are taken out because it is considered financial aid. If I get it, I can add a work category to the blog maybe.

OK, I am off to watch some TV, finish homework, and go to bed. See you all later.

I Want to Play the Bagpipes

Bagpipes, Move, BDay, Job (Maybe), School, Camping, Site, Fishing, and Yard.

I do, sadly, I really do. I think it would be cool. Nobody would like me while I learned, especially my family and neighbors and anyone else I practiced around, but who cares, in the end I would be able to play the bagpipes! I mean, how hard could it be, really?

Also, in researching all this, I found a band called Enter the Haggis. Seriously, a scottish bagpipe rock band. Some of their songs are actually really good, to me anyway, but I want to play the bagpipes, so what do I know.

So, to get started I need to get a practice chanter, which is basically the part of the bagpipe that goes from your mouth to the bag, looks kinda like a flute. This is what your supposed to learn on when your first starting out, and to practice new songs even when your an old vet. I have seen them on eBay and the sorts for $35ish. Also, I am going to ask some people at the river of time for suggestions. I have no intention of jumping right in after all, since I am poor, and I am afraid of the horrible sounds I will make.

In other news, There is this post, the 26th, and the 29th, thats it, in case I haven’t warned you enough.

Thursday is 2 weeks to my birthday.

Two weeks from today I have an interview for RadioShack. Hopefully I get an interview this time, instead of just standing around waiting then being told to go home, after being told 3 times that the store I am applying for isn’t hiring despite me having talked to the store’s manager just 2 days earlier and being told they were.

I still don’t have books for school, they weren’t in yesterday when we went to look. I will try Thursday, and if not go early for call Monday. Is scary I have only like 5 days left, especially after 481 days off (as of today).

Tomorrow will be a year since Jenn and i went to Mackinaw. We are trying to work in a camping trip the week after Labor Day, and I would like another one during fall colors. We will see.

I have the gallery up , as well as an online status indicator on the new site. Gallery is pretty much as it was on this site. I will be making modifications to it over tonight though.

Today Jenn and I went fishing at State Park, and I caught the biggest weed I ever have. Really, this was a big weed, like 4 foot long, and weighed a metric shitload too!

Also today, I installed our back screen door, and yesterday we finished the fence.

OK, I think that is it.

Till
Friday,

Number 292, Part Deux?

Blog, BDay, Hahn’s, State Park, and Site.

OK, so this is post 292, after deleting 6, 2 from “info” and 4 from stories. Then you add in the upcoming posts that will be on the 20th, 23rd, 26th, and 29th and were at 296. Then, the 2 I already have in the new blog, plus another in the next few days is 299. So, my first real post in new blog, on Sept 1st, will be 300th.

Also upcoming is my birthday. September 8th, 3 weeks away. Fun fun.

We went to Hahn’s today to do a little work for a party their having.

Jenn and I went to state park yesterday. Was cool, but icky. We saw 3 deer, and a black squirrel, and a bunch of bluegill. Also, we walked on the beach, which was the icky part. The beach has about 10 ft of water access, the rest is a muck made up of zebra mussel shells and dead weeds mixed with some sand. The result is 12 inched or squshy spongy stuff that crunched when you step on it. Very odd feeling.

Afterward we went to Turkey Roost, but they were closed, so we went to Buffalo Wild Wings. Not bad, I wouldn’t get wings though cause their naked, and I don’t like naked wings. Boneless wings were good though (I think were thighs, maybe not, maybe just less-desirable portion of breast).

Hmmm…

So I have more up on site, going to go do a bit of updating now.

See you Saturday.

What I need is a nice disease that causes money to chronically fall out of my ass.

Grrrr, Bastards

Job (for the last time for a while, sadly), Uncle, and Alpena.

So after applying for a position listed as “Permanent Part-Time”, and having it changed to “Temporary Part-Time”, I was disappointed, but was willing to live with it. The, it was changed to “May no longer be available”. What? Either it was filled, or it’s still open, right? Now, today, I got the final kick in the shin. It is NOT available. From what I have heard here and there, MBS and Minneapolis just had a communication issue, that lead to the hiring of a new person to replace a person that never left. Hence, I got boned. I have no choice but to look at the good side though. I got a free trip to Minneapolis, I will be first to know when the next spot opens up, and I am already half through the interview process when it does.

My Uncle Steve was in over the weekend. He had just left last blog, but I was too rushed to mention. He arrived Thursday night, and left early Saturday morning, 1:30am ish. DJ and Pat were with him too. Since they weren’t here long, I didn’t get to see them much, too bad.

Alpena was OK. We ate, left, arrived, ate, slept, ate, ate, came home. Yeah, that’s about it. We delivered Jenn’s parents their new computer, which is quite a bit nicer than their old one. They should enjoy it, much faster and the price was good too.

OK, I believe that is all.

See you Friday.

nick

I’m gonna hit you so hard, it’ll knock your name out’ta the phone book.
Then, I’m gonna call Ma Bell and have her put you back so I can do it again.

Hmmm…

Job, and thats all.

Well, I still don’t know. I was finally called on Friday, and told that they were unsure if the position is still available, and to “sit tight till Monday”. Grrrr. We went and saw an acquaintance that works from NorthWest at MBS, and they were unaware that any hiring was being done. If nothing else, I have most of the application done, short of FAA history check, and if something new opens up later maybe I will get first dibs. I would rather be hired soon though.

I am leaving for Alpena in about an hour though, so that’s all you get. Will tell you about Alpena, and what I find out about job on Tuesday.

If I Knew, I Would Tell You

Job, Pics, Bike, Weather, and Couch.

OK, so I don’t know yet. I was supposed to find out about the job today, but I didn’t. Apparently, “She’ll be back Wednesday” does not mean “she will be back in the office on Wednesday”, but only that “she will be back, not necessarily anywhere useful, on Wednesday, and when she will be in the office is anyone’s guess”. Yeah, exactly.

I have more pics up, and have changed large images to 800×600. I will begin scanning in some pics soon I think. If you have any problems with the 800×600 thing, say so.

I need to go for a bike ride while it’s cool out. Granted, today was almost too cool, having not reached the 70s till around noon. This weather is freaking nuts.

Jenn got a new couch. After me sitting and sleeping on it for like 7 years, Jenn using as a couch for a year, and being moved 3x, the futon gave up. She bought a new couch at Value City yesterday, and we picked it up today.

OK, that’s all I got.

The Job Thing, Continued

Job stuff.

OK, so I was freaking out Tuesday morning about going, but once Jenn got me to the airport and on the plane, I was fine. I landed in Minneapolis and after about 40 minutes, I figured out how to leave the airport and called a cab to Northwest’s headquarters. Filled out some paperwork, and was interviewed by the very nice Charlie. She said she really liked me and I had a good chance, then suggested I go to the mall till my flight left.

So, at the Mall of America I went to the Apple Store first, of course. Then ate at Ruby Tuesday’s and got on the train back to the airport. After a 45 minute delay in Minneapolis and a run through Detroit’s mile long terminal, I was home at about 8:00.

Overall, a fun day. Mall was a little disappointing, I would rather go to Somerset honestly, but not bad. Minneapolis seams like a cool city.

While I was gone, we thought my mom broke her foot, so I took her in to an orthopedic surgeon today, and found out no, but her knee is torn up.

Last night Jenn, her cousin and her boyfriend, and I went bowling. Had fun.

So, today I was called by Charlie, and she said the changed to position to temporary, and asked if I still want it. I said I guess so, since she said there is a good chance it would go to permanent in a few months. So, she said she would go talk to the next person up, and I should have a job offer soon. The way I heard it all, I am over 90% sure I have it.

So, a fun 3 days. I went almost 1100 miles in 3 airplanes, plus a train, 2 trams, 2 taxis, and 2 cars. Fun fun. And I have gotten way less sleep than I think I should have.

Scotty died. James Doohan passed away yesterday. Along with Star Trek, he was also a veteran of the Normandy invasion, where he was shot in the chest, leg, and right middle finger, which had to be amputated.

Anyway, thats all. See you Sunday I guess. By then I should know for absolute positive sure I think maybe.

And yes, I took pictures, and need to put them up. I need to put up a lot of pics.

till later,
nick

This is funny.
