Interview, Columbia House, Scott, Food, Folding, and Who?

This is general number 123. Sad, considering the next highest category is Blogger at 34, then Special at 18.

Job interview was tonight at the Radio Shack in the Fashion Square Mall. No clue how I did. Was supposed to be an application and an interview, but I was never interviewed. Perhaps they thought I was another applicant and let me go early, perhaps the Bay City store needs to interview me, or perhaps they just plain don’t want me.

My last CD from Columbia House came in, so next month I will be canceling my membership. Woohoo.

Sixty one days until Christmas, and 2 until Scott’s Birthday.

I made beef and bean enchiladas last night. I put a bit too much spice in the meat though, it seems 2 lbs beef + 3 jalapenos + 2 habeneros = too much. They were good though. Also, Jenn made crab rangoon. It was odd to have mexican and chinese at once, but it worked out because hers were done about an hour earlier than mine, so was a nice appetizer/snack.

Saw Suchyta today, first time in a few months. He is moving to Nevada next week I guess.

I passed 2000 points on Folding@Home today, woohoo!

I received an email from a “fan” named Sydney. I replied nicely, but to be honest have no idea who you are. Thanks for the compliments though.

I guess thats it.

Till Saturday,

Memories

1 year, 10 years, Jobs, and eBay.

Lets start with a year ago today (October 24, 2003). I received Panther, reformated my HD and installed, then Suchyta and I went down to the Apple Store in Troy for the official release. It was also my first time to a Steak and Shake, which as I remember it was pretty good.

Now lets go way back, to 6th grade. When I was incapable of using a computer. Yes, it used to be so. I had used an Apple II at MacGregor, but that was a far cry from the Mac LC475s at Handy. I was of low enough skill to be unaware of wordwrap and the return key, hence using the space bar to create every new line. Yeah, that worked out well.

OK, so what else…

I have applied at 7-11 and RadioShack. I am leaning toward RS, except the commission part. I am anti-people, so having a pay system that is based on the requirement of talking to as many people as possible could be a bad thing. Maybe it will be good for me though. Interview is at 6 on Wednesday.

Looking around on eBay, I found one of these in the $150 area. The significance is that about 2 years ago, I bought one on eBay for $55. With what the store wants, thats nearly 4x in 2 years, even the auctions is 3x. I am excited, and tempted, but know I must hold on.

OK, thats all I suppose. See you around.

Eww, Monday.

River of Time, Sick, Food, Tim, and Pipes.

Jenn and I went for a bike ride Friday night to see the progress of the River of Time, they were pretty well set up by 9 ish when we were there. We went back Saturday to walk around. She seemed to enjoy it, and has become addicted to the kettle corn, likes the cream soda, and was having alot of fun watching this red bearded Scottish guy officiate a weird form of tug-o-war.

We were both sick over the weekend. Jenn is pretty much better, and I am not quite, but close.

We made shrimp stir fry last night. It was pretty good. My “Alton Brown’s Sweet and Sour Pork” is still the best chinese I’ve ever made though.

Thursday Tim came in from PA. He left today. I think i saw him for all of 10 minutes. Oh well, he is always busy when he comes into town, and now that I kinda have a life, it’s worse.

Also on Thursday, we had a plumbing problem. After work, there is nothing like a shower. I however, didn’t get one. As I ran water to get it at the right temp, I realized it wasn’t going down the drain. So, I shut off the water and tried plunging. I realized most of my suction was being lost to the overflow, so removed and plugged that. Then, I remembered that the tub, bathroom sink, and kitchen sink are all on the same sewage line, so plugged all them. After a few minutes, I went to see if the other drains were working, and they weren’t. I had worked the clog deeper along the pipe, rather than out like I had hoped. So, I began plunging on one of the two basins of our kitchen sink, and began getting hair and strings out. After this stopped producing much, I tried the other basin. A few moments later, the water started going down, and I was happy. The kitchen, bathroom, and tub all drained, but not where I wanted. I had heard a “waterfall” like noise just after the clog busted, coming from the basement. Upon inspecting, the pipe had burst. The old cast-iron pipe had all but rusted through, and the pressure from me plunging must have been the final straw. It was not pretty. I went over to Jenn’s to shower, as it had been about an hour now since I came home and was actually dirtier than when I started, and my mom called my uncle for assistance.

Two hours later my uncle showed up to help fix the pipes (Help is way understating it. He did pretty much everything as I had no clue. PVC – PVC is fine, but the whole PVC – Iron thing I don’t like, especially the cutting iron part.) It turns out the pipe was at least 50 years old, and had an opening about 1/2″ diameter through the 2″ pipe. Thats a lot of yucky buildup. All is well now though.

OK, that is all till Thursday.

bye

Crisis Averted

Payed, will get pay, and Do it or you will pay.

Well, the Blog will not be going away. It means I can’t cancel my Capitol One card like I had hoped, but ohh well. Another year of not working on the webpage, late blogs, and too much spam is now payed for.

I worked yesterday for a few hours. Not as much as I would like, but it was pretty hot and we didn’t have anything else we could do on the job, so oh well.

River of Time begins setting up tonight, and will be open next 2 days. You all better go, or I will kill you.

You've Tried the Best, Now Try the Rest!

Question, Cell Phones, Grandma, River of Time, Todd, Jenn, Construction, and Work.

Hi all.

Question for you. You store glasses upside down because you don’t want stuff to get in them, or so they can drain, right? Why not dishes? Plates have a much greater surface area than cups, yet they are stored right side up. Would plates not have a greater chance of becoming dirty? You may argue that plates and bowls are nested, so only 1 would become dirty. But, that top one that would be dirty is most likely to be used. Also, some cups are nestable, yet are still stored upside down. Just something to think about.

I was looking at cell phones again. I decided I am still waiting. I don’t have any money, nor do i have a real use for a cell phone.

My grandma is driving me crazy. She has good intentions, but is getting into shit she has no clue about. I don’t expect everyone to know everything, I just want them to know enough to realize that they don’t know.

River of Time is next Saturday and Sunday. Jenn and I are going, all you are welcome to join.

Went to Todd’s bonfire with Jenn. Todd was entertaining as always. We learned that Carhartt coats burn very bright and very hot.

Jenn went with her mom and sister to Ann Arbor Friday. Her sister had to go down for an appointment with her pregnancy, and Jenn was to watch Johnny, her nephew. Turns out the baby was breached, and they scheduled a C-section for Saturday morning. So, Jenn was stuck in Ann Arbor very bored all day. Chris was bored here, so we went and saved her. My brother kept thinking he was in Grand Rapids for some reason.

Broadway has full pavement and curbs, just sidewalks, lights, and landscaping to go. The work in front of my house is done for now, but they need to return to replace the sidewalks and grass.

I worked Saturday for the first time in about 6 weeks. Needless to say I am a bit sore. Will be back at it again on Monday. It sucks, but I need a paycheck.

I think that’s it. Will be back Tuesday.

I think the title is funny enough.

A Year Later, and Sick Again.

Sick, Alice, Stereo, and Work

Strange stuff, I tell you. If you look at last years posts for August 28th and 31st, you will notice I was sick. Well, almost a year later, and I am sick again. I have to think its an allergy to something that blooms in mid to late August.

Jenn and I got to watch Alice Cooper play softball Saturday. He and his road crew have a team and they play games as they travel. I can’t say who won, because we left early, but Alice’s team was doing awesome against the combined efforts of Z93 and Wheelz.

Also Saturday I bought my new TV stand. It works for what I need. My problem now is my bastard stereo’s tuner wont work. I get no radio stations, AM or FM. I have played with the antennas and every connection for 2 days to no avail. Heck, I even opened the case to check for a fried component and came out with nothing.

It’s supposed to rain tomorrow. Since I am sick and don’t want to work, I hope it does. But…, since I am poor and need money, I hope it doesn’t.

Ok, I am tired, and sick, and just overall yucky, so I am going to bed. After I finish the smoothy Jenn brought me, of course.

night,
nick

Hi, I’m looking for Ray Finkel…
(guys pulls a shotgun)
And a new pair of underwear.

100th General!

100th, Bday, Work, Room, BBCards, AmericInn, and Brother.

Yeay! Ok, not THAT big a deal. Next big posts by my figuring will be probably 2000th visitor, or maybe 200th post.

My birthday, as of right now (12:38 A.M. 08/05/04) is a mere 34 days away. Wow, 22, scary.

What have I done…

We worked at Burger King on Tittibawassee Tuesday, no work Monday or Wednesday, and will be at BK on Holland Thursday. I hate Burger Kings. They all have identical landscaping, the beds are spread apart so is seems like forever, and there is always alot of traffic.

Still no room cleaning. I did find a TV stand though, I think. I am strongly considering the one at Staples, as it is one of the few I can find for decently cheap, has adjustable shelves, and has a base large enough for my TV but not excessively so.

Also, no BBDB work, as the dogs messed all my cards around. Ok, I could easily have sorted them within a few minutes, Im just too lazy, there, happy? I said it.

Jenn and I went to AmericInn on Monday. You can use their pool, spa, and sauna for $4 a person. I presume it’s for all day use, but you don’t get a card of anything, so probably need to re-pay if you left and tried to come back.

My brother might be moving out again. He has an interview in Livonia for a job doing car detailing. Mom is crushed of course, and I am unsure. Yeah, it might be a great opportunity for him, but Labadie is a great place too. I don’t know.

OK folks, thats all for today. See you Saturday.

If you build a man a fire, he will be warm for a day.
If you set a man on fire, he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Number 155

100th General, Room, Charter, and Munger.

Hey, Wednesday will be my 100th General post, woohoo. But wait, my 100th General would be considered special, and hence categorized as such, and thus not a General post. But then, it wouldn’t be special again, and go back to general, making it the 100th, and again Special. Oh, what a paradigm we have. I guess it will have to be left as General.

I have not cleaned my room, or really even began to try. I have been looking for a TV stand, since I am annoyed with the one I have now. It’s too tall. I am amazed at how hard it is to find a stand that does what I expect. I have given up the idea of building an entire built-in desk/entertainment enter, but may build a small TV stand, if I get to it. I would need tools for that though, and I don’t have those.

No word from Charter. Suchyta says I’m a shoe in. I should call them about my app on Monday.

Jenn and I went to the Munger Potato Festival on Friday night. We had fun. Demo Derby was interesting as always, we both got a 5 lb bad of spuds, and spent 45 minutes to get about a half mile from the parking lot to the street.

OK, I’m going to bed because although it might rain tomorrow, it also might not, in which case I would need to work.

night all

“And they give you cash, which is just as good as money.”

It's Shake n' Bake, and I helped!

Random crap, don’t bother.

So, uhm, I don’t want to be here…

I am pretty tired, and kinda hot, and, well, I am probably just going to do a half-assed job at posting if I do, so, uhm…

But there was a few things I wanted to mention, but there not important…

And it’s not like anybody reads this anymore…

Hmm…

Ok, I guess.

I worked today, but not yesterday, and only a little the day before.

Blog/Website has been re-spidered, so all pages but this one are in search index.

I decided Schwarzenegger and Ventura would be interesting running mates.

Haven’t done any website work in a long time now. Haven’t done baseball cards in a few days either.

If I don’t work tomorrow, I am going to clean/rearrange my room.

I finally found the key to our front door. I lost it like a year ago. Was in center console of the car.

Powerbooks ship with all their install images on a single DVD, rather than 8 install/restore CDs and a system check CD like Jenn’s ibook or 2 Install, 3 restore, and 1 check CD like mine. Is a good idea. iBook is only mac that ships with a CD-Rom option, and thats only available on the low end edu only model.

OK, thats enough. I’m going to bed.

bye,
nick

If the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be coming toward you, rather than you toward it, then you know its not a dream, and you’re just sleep walking down a railroad track.

On time, holy crap!

On time, Apple, Weather, and Job.

I’m on time! Well, I have an excuse (yes, I need an excuse to do things right). I brought my ibook over to Jenn’s so I can update from here.

Apple is at about 99,900,000, so they should certainly reach the 100,000,000 by tomorrow evening. I am impressed at how fast they are accumulating downloads.

It’s really warm out. The good news is it should rain in about 3 hours, thus dropping the temp and humidity. Michigan pisses me off. 63, 65, 55, 90, 85, 65. What the hell? Pick a season and stick with it.

I have folding@home running again. The graphical, regular program. Working fine, and I am glad.

I need a job. Yeah, I do the landscaping thing, but I need a REAL job. I rewrote my resume, and need to start submitting it. I need money, and I need something to do all day, and Jobs are good at solving both of those.

Ok, good night all. I will try to be on time Wednesday too, start a habit of it. And I PROMISE new poll by next post.

bye
