Ninja Parade!

Me:  Sweet, a Ninja Parade!

Lame Guy:  What?

Me:  I reached in my pocket and there was a mini Snickers bar, there must have been a Ninja Parade.

LG:  What the hell is a Ninja Parade?

Me:  You are just standing there, then with no signs at all, there is candy in your pocket.

LG:  I didn’t get any.

Me:  They must have sensed your non-belief.

LG:  How can you not believe in Ninjas?  They are a fact of history, elite Japanese soldiers.

Me:  Exactly, yet they sensed it.

LG:  I mean, their not some magical superpower like they are depicted in some movies and comics and whatnot…

Me:  …there’s the doubt, and that’s why there is no candy for you.

LG:  Whatever, you’re weird.

Me:  mmm, ninjalicious nougat…

What an Education Costs

So, I just added everything up, and here is what it took for me to get my education.

Total cost of classes: $24,491.53
Total cash paid: $2,236.90
Total loans: $12,879.00
Grants and Scholarships: $34,026.00

Which leaves me with a theoretical profit of $24,650.37.  That does not include books (I didn’t add up, but likely around $3000.00) or room and board or food.  According to Ferris’s math (which is the Dept. of Edu.’s math), Room and Board is about equal to course fees, so the total cost for everything would be around $50,000.  This explains the theoretical profit, which is meant to cover Room and Board.

All that considered, the theory goes that, I have 4 pieces of paper, 8.5″ x 11″, that are worth a combined $49,141.90.  Wonder what I can get for them on eBay?

My actual, out of pocket cost (gift aid minus fees, cash paid, and loans to repay) is only $5,581.43.  That is around a tenth of what most people pay, so I really can’t complain about the costs.

The bottom line:  That I actually figured all this out proves that I am, most certainly, an engineer.

New Fish Pics

I threw up some new pics of the fish Friday night.  I took them on my phone, so are unfortunately a bit grainy.  Jill is getting huge, and Tiger is doing well.  Surprisingly, the snails are still alive, though I can see some chips in their shells.  Pictures really don’t do Tiger justice, her colors just don’t show up right.

You can view the pics on my picasa album.

Movie List, Part Two

The movie list continues.

So, this has been sitting in my drafts for a few months now, so I suppose I may as well just post it.  You may or may not remember, but long ago, back in the spring, I was making a list of movies everyone should see.  This was part two, that was never really finished.  Yeah, just adds eight.  There are still a lot missing.

It continues…

You Know You're an Engineer If…

Sporks

Last Friday in class, standing around talking, I pulled out my Ti spork to show Dane I had it for our Friday lunch.  Travis was there and asked why I had one, and I responded with “why don’t you have one?”  We continued a bit and I started on a discussion of how the spork is the best food for fried ice cream, and any ice cream really, as the fork tines help break through the shell and through the hard ice cream, yet the surface area of the spoon helps to hold more ice cream and pick up the semi-melted parts that would slip through a fork.  Travis’s response to this was “God, you are an engineer.”  I guess I have to be to put that much thought into something so, uhm, sporkish.

2.5, Finally

Not much, yet…

So, WordPress 2.5 is finally out. All seems to be well with the blog except that my Picasa sidebar widget won’t stay, so that is out for a little bit.

Much larger update either around 10 or sometime tomorrow, stretching back to about easter.
