Lots of Misc Stuff

Camping Notes, New Schedule, Old Site, Jenn’s Job, Applications, and Family Guy

So first up is stuff I forgot last time. Saturday evening there was a rabbit that snuck up on us while camping. It sat about 10 ft away eating something. We tried to get a picture but it camouflaged in rather well Also, we tried to go for a walk to check out the mini cabins, but the one we chose was in use. The gate in the road going up to it was locked, so we thought was vacant, but apparently the DNR gives whoever takes it the keys. Maybe someday we will rent one, that could be cool.

The new site schedule. OK, rather than a strict 3 days, I will now post all willy nilly, but within reason. There will be a 5 day maximum between posts, and no posts like “nothing” and that’s all. That just doesn’t count. With any luck, my posts will improve due to not “needing” to post at certain times.

The old site is now gone. It ended with a Yahoo search bot at 11:57pm. Is funny Yahoo would spider the site for searching 3 minutes before it becomes unavailable. Anyway, that was the 6017th, and final, visitor. The total visitor marker list is:

Jul 06 03 – 0 Counter Installed
Sep 21 03 – 100
Oct 12 03 – 200
Nov 15 03 – 400
Dec 16 03 – 600
Jan 15 04 – 650
Feb 17 04 – 750
Mar 09 04 – 850
Apr 03 04 – 950
Apr 07 04 – 1000
Jul 16 04 – 1500
Aug 21 04 – 2000
Mar 07 05 – 4000
Jul 06 05 – 5000
Aug 31 05 – 5744 switch
Sep 28 05 – 6000
Sep 30 05 – 6017 final

And that’s all for the old site. Eventually, I will rescue the old comments. It just might take a few months.

Jenn got a call on Friday, that she was hired at Covenant in Saginaw. She will be a nurse’s assistant in post-op on 3rd shift. It’s 3 days every 2 weeks, but pay is better than staples, and their 12 hour shifts. She is very excited, but a little scarred.

In the last, ehh, 72 hours, I have applied for Co-ops at both Saginaw Metal Casting and Bay City Powertrain. I hope I get one, it would be nice to have a job, especially a good one. Having been in MTP should help, but I will be the first to admit I don’t have the best GPA.

Other than all that, Jenn and I rented A Family Guy Movie: Stewie Griffin, the Untold Story. It was pretty good, basically 3 Family Guy episodes back to back that all were interrelated. Good though.

I think that’s all.

Keeping it real, real crappy.

Camping 2005-3

Camping

OK, I decided I am going to move away from the 3 day schedule. Also, Jenn got a job. But, that and all about my old site, can wait till next time. This entry is about camping.

We went up Friday, taking the same spot we had last time. Set up camp and all that, and made a fire. Dinner was the last half of our Subway we got on the way up. We went to bed a little after 10. The night was cold, but we stayed warm thanks to a good tent and sleeping bags.

Saturday Jenn was up first, and had breakfast going by the time I was up. Tater tots, eggs, and biscuits. Yum. After breakfast, and a little sitting around, we toured the park including a return to the lookout tower and down to the footbridge. Next was a little fishing, though we had no luck. Jenn did enjoy napping on the dock though. Lunch was hot dogs, then a nice game of Trivial Pursuit. We now have the “90’s Time Capsule” edition, which makes things a little easier.

Later, we had dinner of hamburgers and zucchini. The rest of the night was just sitting around the campfire admiring the pitch black around us. We went to bed around 1. Saturday evening was a little warmer than Friday.

Sunday morning we packed up and headed home. There was some construction in Arenac County, same as when we headed up, but nothing big.

Yes, I have pics, and will have them up within a week. There were many hunters up there, for some bird season, and for deer archery opener on Saturday. This made things strange, as you could hear shotgun fire at least once per hour most of the day. Kinda like camping in Saginaw. Also, the acorns were falling, so you would occasionally hear them fall crashing through leaves to the ground, which would scare you especially at night.

Jenn and I also bought some air-soft BB guns at Meijer Thursday, which we used frequently up camping. We lost alot of BBs, but recaptured many too. They came with sights, but they aren’t great ones. They are fun though.

OK, I will have Jenn remind me of anything I forgot, and that , the new schedule rules, and the old site, and more on Jenn’s job will be next time.

See you then

I don’t scare easy, i’m too dumb.

6349 visits?

Visitors, Camping, and School.

Well, despite doubts from a certain someone, the old blog has passed 6000 visitors and currently sits at 6002. Jenn was 6000 btw, I asked her to check how many I was at and she ended up being the 6000th. Friday evening at midnight though, it poofs away forever. Still though, that 6002 plus the 347 here is a crapload of visits.

Jenn and I are, were pretty sure, going camping Friday, Saturday, and returning Sunday. That means that the Saturday post will be delayed until Sunday afternoon, or just pre-posted on friday afternoon.

Delta released their winter schedules this week, so I have been going through and trying to schedule my courses. I looked back through the fall and spring/summer schedules too, so I could figure out what courses are offered only during certain semesters. Sadly, it looks like I will still have a full year past this winter,, plus another 3-4 semesters at Ferris, but I have no one to blame but me for being so indecisive on my Major.

I think that’s it. Never did remember the additional thing from last time.

Oh, and comment damn it, no one has in a while. I feeling lonely.

And yes, I know I need a poll.

Mmmm, Bacon

River of Time, and something else.

So, River of Time was cool. I did as I wanted, and talked to the bagpipers. They were from the Midland Highlanders and were way better than me. Anyway though, they offer classes for free as long as you join their free club for a while. So, not only can I get free bagpipe lessons, but as payment I get to play in parades and at next years River of Time. Coolness. Also, as always, I got some rootbeer and kettle corn. Jenn had the cherry fizz. The redbearded irishman was there as well, but we didn’t get to see any of his children’s games. Jenn really enjoyed them last year.

Moving on, I have nothing else.

Really.

Uhm…

I guess keep on enjoying the new template. It has a calendar.

Ooh! Family Guy movie on DVD Tuesday! Don’t rent it till Wednesday though, to make sure there is one for me.

Well, I thought of something else, but can’t remember it now, so ohh well. Maybe Wednesday.

Happy Fall

Fall, Site, School, F@H, and River of Time.

Fall is my favorite season. It’s cool out, all the trees change to cool colors (technically, yellow, orange, and red are warm colors, but you get it, right?). The air smells good (yes, even the sugar beet plant, I can smell the sweetness inside there somewhere), the last of the produce comes ripe, including the wonderful squash. It’s all just so nice. I need to go out camping in it. Maybe in 2 weeks. I love fall.

I am a little bothered that I haven’t done much here lately, but I have been busy with school and homework, so at least I wasn’t just being lazy. I need to update some webpages, work on the gallery, and fix more old blogs. At least I changed the theme. Not now though. Maybe later tonight.

Speaking of the site, Apple updated .Mac. See, long ago, .Mac was called iTools, and was free. Then, evil spammers started using the service (and Apple saw a chance for profit) and it had it’s name switched and a $99/year fee applied. So, on the day this happened, many people all signed up at once. Now, each year in September, all these people fret and complain that they, 70%-ish of the .Mac subscribers, used to get the service free, and that Apple better upgrade the service if they want them to stay members. So, Apple does. And, being September, they just did. From the original 100MB, to last years 250, and now 1GB of space, along with a few other things. Now, granted, GMail gives you 2GB, but it’s just for email, .Mac lets you use it as a remote disk. So that’s cool, but I don’t need 1GB, nor do I have $99. If there was a $20 100MB and it came with PHP and MySQL so I could keep WordPress (which I vastly prefer over iBlog) I would consider it. But, since that didn’t happen, Apple will be 1 more member short come next Saturday.

School is OK. I had a Pre-Calc test Wednesday, so no homework for the weekend, woohoo. I have a major, and a plan, and it excites me. I need to talk to a counselor at Ferris though I think, or maybe one of the counselors at Delta could help me, I don’t know.

I am running Folding@Home again. Only as a screensaver though, not the full background app. I haven’t completed a work unit yet though, after like 3 or 4 days of running it.

River of Time is this weekend. You should all go, because it’s cool. It’s another good part about fall.

Not sure what else.

I guess that’s it.

Yeah, that’s it.

Enjoy the fall.

Poor Little Guy

An ode to a mouse.

My pet mouse died 🙁

OK, maybe it wasn’t a real pet, just a random mouse that found a way into my room, but still. After 4 days I was getting attached to the little guy. He (or she) gave me something to do, listen to, and watch. Yeah, it was a little annoying when he ran around at 2 am or knocked things around on my shelf making loud startling noises, but still, he was cool.

I couldn’t see that he just wanted somewhere warm to stay, and some food to eat. Sure, I would say that “If he had come to me, I would gladly have housed him in my aquarium and fed him well”. But I couldn’t see at the time that he was, of course, scarred of me, as I was 80 ft tall in his eyes. And I kept thinking to myself, “But he could have mites, or fleas, or who knows”, but it wasn’t his fault. He was in no way in the wrong. He did nothing unmouselike, or even, it could be argued, unhumanlike. Now i see all this, but it is too late.

I had to go and be a bastard, I had to go and be a big evil bastard. I had to set a trap. And now, I have to live with the consequenses, because though he outsmarted me for 4 days, he finally succumbed to the temptation of lemon Jolly Rancher. So, at 6:20 this morning, my poor little friend passed away, due to a severely fractured skull and spine (it actually woke me up, though I didn’t realize what it was until about 3 hours later).

So, rest in peace little guy, and I am sorry. You will always be my friend, though I certainly did not act as a friend to you. I hope you can forgive me. You taught me a valuable lesson about the flaws of man, though you were only a little mouse.

Nothing Really

No sewer, Brandon, and that’s it.

So, the LiquiForce people are outside working on our sewer, so we haven’t been able to dispose of water. We can use it, we just can’t let it down the drain. Kinda sucks.

Brandon totaled his car out a few days ago on Woodside bridge (liberty? or independence? Think Independence). He hit the center median to avoid some car that cut him off, and rolled the car over the median, then slid across the oncoming lane. Pictures are not good looking. Luckily though, he is fine except a bump on head and sore neck from when he took off the seat belt and fell out of seat.

Uhm…

Not much else.

I want an iPod nano.

OK, bye.

It Was My Birthday

Birthday, and other nonsense

So my Birthday has come and gone, and was overall a good one. Jenn got me a practice chanter, so I can begin learning to bagpipe. I also got some money that is always useful. Good gifts. Jenn took me to Genji on Thursday night for dinner. I had filet and scallops and a tuna roll and a piece of octopus sushi. It was all very good. I love their soup. We got 1/2 off my meal (not counting sushi) because it was my birthday, and I got a little cake. As I said, very good.

SciFi is having a Bruce Campbell marathon. His new movie Man with the Screaming Brain is on in a few minutes.

Apple no longer lists the iPod mini on their store, and it’s not in the “sale” section yet either. I suspect it will show up their soon though, if anyone is looking for a deal.

I guess that’s it. bye.

Ooh, look what WP lets me do — 🙂

Because Mini Was Too Big

Apple, School, Interview, and Birthday.

Apparently, “Mini” is too big for Apple, as today the iPod mini was discontinued in favor of the new iPod nano. Along with being smaller, it also sports a color display so you can view pictures and such, as well as swapping out the mini’s 4 or 6GB HDs for 2 or 4GB flash ROMs. It keeps the old price though of $149 and $249 respectively, or $129 and $179 for students (like me). Also (it was a big day for Apple) they released a new version of iTunes to support the new iPod and the new Motorola ROKR (rocker) cellphone, which supports iTunes songs. I am not totally sure on all it’s specs, but know it only works with Cingular in the US.

School is going well still. I had a Pre-Calc quiz today that went well. I have some homework for Man. Tech to work on when I am done here.

RadioShack interview went, well, whatever. The whole commission based thing I wasn’t real happy with, so just winged the interview and didn’t care much either way. We will see, whatever happens happens.

Not much else.

Haven’t worked on entry conversions, because of homework and such.

My Birthday is tomorrow. Woohoo to 23!

I guess that’s it.

Will let you know how birthday went on Saturday.

What was that?
A flaming burp.
Does it always do that?
It’s not always a burp.

301st Time's the Charm

Edits, Posts, Whopper, BBDB, and Sickness

So, I am now up to around 115 edited posts. That’s pretty impressive I think. After I have finished editing all 296 posts, I will return to work on the gallery, and try getting polls back up.

I am strongly considering changing my posting method. Rather than the “every 3rd day” that has honestly served me quite well, I am considering moving to a more willy nilly method. Instead of every 3 days, I would post as I wanted, as things happened. This means that:

  1. I could post things right away, rather than up to 3 days later when they are no longer as fresh in my mind
  2. When posting, I would only write on a single topic, making it easier to categorize them. If I had multiple topics, I could make multiple posts at once. This means no more reading about Apple’s new mouse to find out how my job interview went.

The downside, of course, is that I may slack off. The only reason I post sometimes is because for over 2 years, I have always just posted every 3 days. We will see I suppose. Maybe the first new poll on this site.

I noticed the old blog is at around 5700 visits. I checked in SiteMeter and it is expecting, based on the last month, another 300 or so visits this month. That means there is a chance the old blog will make it to 6000 visits before being deleted by Apple of Oct 1.

I looked up the new Triple Whopper with Cheese. Around 1500 calories, and 45 grams of fat. Add in fries and you’re maxed out for the day.

Remember the BBDB? My great idea to sort and enter all my Baseball Cards into a database? Yeah, that never happened. Just wanted to let you know.

Jenn is now sick. We had thought she got me sick, but now we think it was my Brother, then me, then my Mom, then Grandma, and now Jenn. It is odd though, because if my Brother brought it in first, my Mom and Grandma should have been sick before me, as they have weaker immune systems. Guess not. Who knows.

OK, I think that’s it for my 301st blog. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend.
